We start this week in the Langen woods......
まず。 ランゲンの森の中で.
But soon move to Frankfurt, where the butterflies are hatching in the Palmengarten...
ちょうちょう. フランクフルトの植物園.
and outside the daffodils herald spring........すいせん
and there is a fuchsia from New Zealand....フクシア
...and something from China.....
The film was released in Germany and Japan last November 🎬 . This is because the director is German - Wim Wenders, and his latest film is filmed exclusively in Tokyo. I didn't want to see it in Frankfurt with German subtitles, so it was the Nr.1. thing to do in Yokohama this week.
"Existential, Contemplative, Calm" is what the critics say. They have hit the nail on the head.
And the music!...🎼 this is genius. There is no "soundtrack" as such. The old cassettes which Hirayama (the main character) listens to whilst driving tell us so much....The House of the Rising Sun (Alan Price); Pale Blue Eyes (Lou Reed); Aoi Sakana (Sachiko Kanenbou) and many more...Nina Simone; Van Morrison; Maki Asakawa; Ray Davies... and of course the signature song "Perfect Day" by Lou Reed.
The film gave me such an inner glow........🔥 (which I needed, as the aircon was on overdrive in the cinema!). パーフェクト・デイズ.
I'm back in the land of Matcha Latte...日本 🎌

......of mouth-watering seafood...みなとみらいシーフードレストラン
...of town councils who plant magnolias....ほどがや
...of mini gardens.....
and of challenging telephones....漢字テスト 🙄
....and orderly queuing..
I am in my old haunt - Hodogaya Ward, a suburb of Yokohama.....
I have to literally to bend down and push my suitcase up the road to reach Misako-san's house. The house perched on the hill. A lovely warm welcome from my hosts as always, and from Toro-chan, who had to investigate my room.....ホストファミリーの猫

The bed was shaking and the walls were creaking. But it only lasted about 6 seconds. To me it felt like a long time though. At breakfast - Misako-san: " oh, that was only a Shindo 2" (震度, "seismic intensity"). They have a scale here for tremors. 1 and 2 are just part of everyday life, 3 or 4 is maybe a topic to chat to the neighbour about, but 5, 6, 7....no thanks, Check your app please. Yesterday it was a 5.8 in Fukushima apparently. 地震.

I go for a little walk the next day and there it is.....on the horizon....just sitting there...that iconic volcano.....富士山
Next door they are squeezing some more houses in.......新しい家が建設中です
......with Japanese precision of course. The truck drivers even manage to keep their wing mirrors clean......きれいなトラックの鏡
The neighbour has a grapefruit tree.......tempting!......隣の庭のグレープフルーツ....🤤
...and little signs of spring are everywhere.....
